M: Mint is usually reserved for sealed or pristine records.

NM or M-: Nearly Mint with only one or two insignificant defects. Looks like it came from a retail store.

VG+ or E: Extremely nice and would be NM except for a few light hairline scratches or scuffs which should not affect sound. Cover will show minor wear or even possible seam split or small hole.

VG: A well-used record that still sounds good but may have moderate surface noise, pops, light scratches felt with fingernail. Covers will show many signs of handling along with possible creases, small holes and side splitting.

VG-, G+ and G:  Usually has heavy wear, a dull surface, is covered in scratches, and may have surface noise. A very well worn record that plays through typically without skipping. Basically, it will do until a better copy comes along. Cover will show moderate to heavy wear and tear, rips, tears, etc.

P (Poor) or F (Fair): Record may be cracked or impossibly warped. Usually heavily damaged. Cover will show heavy wear and tear or may be falling apart.
