Locust
'Alpha Waves'
Buk, UK, 1976
BULP 2001
INTRIGUING RELEASE on the UK BUK label - the only other album I know on this label is by TIME a progressive rock ensemble headed by the two brothers from Harvest records prog monsters Spontaneous Combustion. Locust are a clever six piece outfit playing in a progressive jazz fusion style ala FBI, Hummingbird and Kokomo. Interestingly I once got talking to guitarist Pete Bonas at the bar of the old Marquee club in London. Turns out he had played with a shed load of well known players and was, at the time, in a band called Zen Attack. The Locust record is a charming effort steeped in typical mid seventies fusion twists and contains nine long tracks of sensational playing. Keyboardist Chris Parren was also, rather surprisingly, in Maggie Bells Midnight Flyer. Produced by future Rush/Dream Theater collaborator Paul Northfield.
