The disc is Very Good Plus, clean and shiny and unmarked. The sleeve is Very Good Plus, clean and undamaged, with no creases or splits. The collection is three very fine sessions for Blue Note in 39 and 40. Not enough material from any session to make a release by itself, but making a satisfying record together. Pianist Pete Johnson has a trio session with Ulysses Livingston on guitar and Abe Bolar on bass. All 6 tracks were 12 inch 78s, so from 3 to 4 and a half minutes. Known primarily as a boogie pianist, he expands on that here, showing tasteful solos, backings, and settings in small group swing, never far from the blues. Earl "Fatha" Hines, best known of the three, here has two 12 inch piano solos, freight trains of ideas. Guitarist Teddy Bunn used his thumb to good effect on his four titles, one in two takes. He sings a couple blues, King Porter Stomp, and the self-explanatory A Guitar in High. Save postage on multiples.
