Foghat

'S/T'

Bearsville, UK, 1972

K 45503

BRUISING DEBUT album from this killer amalgam of Black Cat Bones and Savoy Brown. Ripping 12-bar boogie is the order of the day and it doesn't get much earthier than this album, produced incidentally by Dave Edmunds. Rumour has it however, that Todd Rundgren was actually the first producer to get behind the desk but the results were less than what the doctored ordered, hence the arrival of Edmunds. In another interesting twist of fate, some tracks were mixed by resident Bearsville engineer Nick Jameson (a former member of heavy psych rockers American Dream) who would, of course, go on to replace founder Foghat bassist Tony Stevens on the classic 'Fool For The City' album.

Lonesome Dave Peverett is in fine fettle, kicking into 12-bar grooves big time, whilst Rod 'The Bottle' Price slices and dices his guitar like a man possessed. Naturally, the lead track 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' went on to become something of a Foghat classic. Like the first couple of ZZ Top albums or those early Humble Pie Immediate releases, this album has a sort of fumbling blind appeal. Its the sound of a band not yet fully in control of their musical destiny but playing in a style that will ultimately reap massive rewards. Sure it's raw and yes, Edmunds makes damn certain that the rock 'n roll content is well represented and always in the red zone. You will not be disappointed.
