ALWAYS BEEN one of my favourite southern rock bands primarilly because they managed to included the requisite combination of country rock and hard rock into one glorious bundle of fun. Band leader Hughie Thompson has one of the most distinctive and likeable voices of the entire movement and he's a great songwriter to boot.

This was their debut album and the maturity is palpable, showcasing a band firmly in control of not only their song writing but also their sound - mixing tough-nut hard rock ala Skynyrd with the down home worldly charm of Charlie Daniels or the Allman Brothers. Great songs are the key to the Outlaws success and this album showcases a handful of really fine tracks including the solid southern rock swing of 'There Goes Another Love Song', the country pickin' of 'Knoxville Girl' and the full-on twin barrelled ten minute blast of 'Green Grass & High Tides' - an in concert fave. Produced to fine effect by veteran Paul Rothchild (the Doors) the sound is both friendly and fiery with just the right combination of flash and freshness to set them apart from the competition.

Really, one of the best Southern rock bands and a deliciously emotive album with all the right moves - and three lead guitars! Move over Skynyrd.
