Armando Peraza (May 30, 1924 – April 14, 2014) was a Cuban  percussionist  Through his long associations with jazz pianist George Shearing, vibraphonist Cal Tjader and guitarist Carlos Santana, he has been internationally known from the 1950s through to the 1990s. Although primarily known as a bongocero and conguero, Peraza is also an innovative and accomplished dancer and composer. Peraza has been featured on classic recordings by Perez Prado, Machito, George Shearing, Charlie Parker, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader and Carlos Santana. Edward Cano (June 6, 1927 – January 30, 1988) was an  and  pianist and composer.
1955 US Fantasy Records Mono edition. Released with  branded near the bottom edge of the front cover, with HOT RHYTHM written underneath the release title on the front cover, and with a vinyl weight of approx. 180 grams.  Subsequent Repressing's will have  branded near the top edge of the front covers, and will not include HOT RHYTHM written underneath the release title on the front covers. 

This release was recorded in three separate sessions, and with different musicians. San Francisco, March 6, 1954; Los Angeles, March 25, 1954; New York, November11, 1955.

Callen Radcliffe Tjader Jr. (July 16, 1925 – May 5, 1982) was an American  musician, known as the most successful non-Latino . He explored other jazz idioms, even as he continued to perform music of Afro-Jazz, the Caribbean, México and Latin America.

Cal Tjader played the  primarily, but was accomplished on the , , , , and the piano. He worked with many musicians from several cultures. He is often linked to the development of  and . Although fusing Jazz with Latin music is often categorized as "Latin Jazz", Tjader's works swung freely between both styles. His  award in 1980 for his album La Onda Va Bien capped off a career that spanned over forty years.
