Through both his solo work and as a frontman for the legendary Hüsker Dü, Bob Mould pioneered a signature wall of guitar sound and unmistakable vocal style that has imprinted a defining influence on more than one generation. In the four decades encompassing his career thus far, however, Mould saw his greatest success during his stint as lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for iconic early ‘90s trio Sugar . After the resounding success of their debut album Copper Blue , Sugar followed it up with the Beaster EP in 1993. Unlike the pop sound of its predecessor, Beaster found the group experimenting with a much darker, heavier sound. Highlights include "Tilted" which Steregum hailed as "possibly the best song in Mould's entire catalog" and the epic "JC Auto" which Pitchfork ranked alongside "anything on In Utero in terms of sheer force." The EP became the group's highest-charting release when it reached No. 3 in the UK album charts in April 1993. Presented on heavyweight colored 180g vinyl LP for the first time!
