UFO

'Phenomenon'

Chrysalis, UK, 1974

CHR 1059

DEFACTO DEBUT album from this wondeful British hard rock band - they had released three earlier albums of wildly indifferent 'space rock' that had failed to make significant impact in the UK but 'Phenomeon' was their first album for Chrysalis and also, most significantly, the first to feature new lead guitarist Michael Schenker. Schenker's influence should not be underestimated; taking writing credits on eight of the ten tracks and with a blistering lead guitar style, it transformed the bands appeal almost instantaneously. The emphasis by this new version of UFO was on tight, no nonsense hard rock with penetrating lead guitar work and great arrangements. Above all else, this album produced at least two hard rock standards in 'Doctor Doctor' and 'Rock Bottom', both still played in concert to this very day.

Tough to find original green label copies - most are the late seventies blue represses.
