The Beatles - The Beatles
I am pleased to offer for sale this superb, Factory Sample UK stereo 1st pressing of The Beatles 10th studio album, The Beatles.
Unlike the majority of bands that release their first album eponymously, The Beatles decided to wait until their tenth. or, The White Album, as it is most popularly known, was a tour-de-force of The Beatles musical range and vision. Released with a poster and four portrait photographs the double album is one of the most collectable out of the entire Beatles catalogue. Finding complete and original near mint copies today is extremely difficult, finding one such as that being sold in this auction - with 1st Labels, Factory Sample sticker, all inners as well as an as-knew sleeve is virtually impossible.
This particular record, along with all others listed for sale in this set of listings, were part of the collection of one of the best known Beatles critics, William Mann. Mann was the music critic for the Times newspaper. His article "What Songs the Beatles Sang" was perhaps the first to critically review the Beatles as musicians rather than as a social phenomenon.
Serial number: PCS 7067 / PCS 7068
Matrix number: YEX 709 - 1 / YEX 710 - 1 / YEX 711 - 1 / YEX 712 - 2
Vinyl Weight: 165g
The -1 matrix numbers confirm that the record is a true UK first pressing. The mother & stamper codes communicate that the record was produced early in the production run. Consequently, the audio reproduction is fantastic. Take a listen yourself below!
The labels are the first variant as is evident from the absence of "An EMI Recording ..." printed text on all four labels.
This copy comes with a fully laminated Garrod & Lofthouse top opening gatefold sleeve with "The Beatles" embossed text and a 7 digit serial number, in this case: No. 0298550, to the front cover.
The album is complete with the original pair of black die-cut inner sleeves, the four portrait photographs, original 6 panelled lyric poster and the rare photo-spacer.
The condition report provided below is given as a guide only. I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.
Disc: MINT -
Labels: MINT -
The labels are clean and retain rich, vibrant colours. The sticker shows no damage. Only a small collection of dull spindle trails can be seen around each unworn centre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT +
Both playing surfaces of the record retain the superb original deep gloss shine and in bright daylight appear blemish free. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp a few barely visible wispy marks are seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen.
Sound Quality: MINT -
Please note: the eBay app does not facilitate playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the audio clips.
As can be heard in the recordings, this is a copy that has been played cautiously on good quality equipment. The lead ins are quiet. There is no noise in between tracks. Other than two pops on T3S3, "Mother Nature's Son" the audio is absolutely flawless. A truly superb listening experience which you would be extremely hard pressed to improve upon.
Sleeve: MINT -
The sleeve is in fantastic condition. All four sides are bright and clean. The laminate to all four sides retains the original lustre. The spine is in great condition and is devoid of laminate cracking. The top and bottom edges are without wear. The corners look great.
Inners: NEAR MINT
The original inner sleeves are in great condition. The portrait photographs are without wear, as is the poster. The spacer is clean and without major creasing.
Before the audio test, the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl was placed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
