London-born pop maverick Westerman has released his latest album, An Inbuilt Fault, which was created during the depths of the pandemic. The album's nine songs reflect Westerman's experience of loneliness, heartbreak, and dread during two years of intense isolation. The album is visceral, live-sounding, and full of breath sounds and idiosyncratic gestures of acoustic instruments. It creates a spatial feeling that sounds like musicians assembled in a room, passing evolving ideas back and forth. Co-produced with James Krivchenia (Big Thief), An Inbuilt Fault musically references everything from Talk Talk's ethereal brand of pop to David Byrne's bag of rhythmic tricks and Cat Stevens' fireside warmth.
Westerman's latest album follows his acclaimed 2020 debut Your Hero Is Not Dead, a graceful and self-reflective project that earned him a spot as one of the most talked about new artists of the year.
