Led Zeppelin – Untitled

I am pleased to offer for sale this superb UK 1st pressing of Led Zeppelin’s untitled fourth studio album, known commonly as “Led Zeppelin IV”.

Known by most thanks to “Stairway to Heaven”, Led Zeppelin IV is considered by many as one of the best rock albums of all time. The album was sold for the first 12 weeks on the orange & plum Atlantic label before being repressed on the newly designed orange & green label. This particular copy comes with the extremely rare first variant labels which credit Peter Grant as executive producer.

Album Details:

Serial number: 2401012

Matrix number: A // 3 / B // 3

Stamper codes: 1 1 1 / 1 1 6

Vinyl Weight: 160g

The matrix numbers confirm that the record is a true UK first pressing. The mother & stamper codes communicate that the record was one of the first 1000 produced. Consequently, the audio reproduction is fantastic. Take a listen yourself below!

The sought after orange & plum Atlantic label are the second variant as is evident from the Peter Grant executive producer credit and the orientation of the feather symbol on the side 2 label. Further discussion upon label variants can be found on the relevant Discogs page.

This non-laminated gatefold sleeve is the first variant as is evident from the absence of any text.

The album is complete with the original first variant lyric inner sleeve, distinguishable from later variants by the ‘dark grey’ colouring.

Condition Report:

In addition to my own conservative grading, I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.

Disc: VERY GOOD / VERY GOOD +

Labels: EXCELLENT

The labels are clean and retain rich, vibrant colours. Only a small collection of dull spindle trails can be seen around each centre hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both sides of the record retain deep gloss playing surfaces. In bright daylight a covering of light surface marks and scuffs can be seen to both sides. Surprisingly, none can be felt. I assume the record was kept out of the inner sleeve at some point.

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD / VERY GOOD +

Please note: the eBay app does not facilitate playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the audio clips.

Side 1:

Side 2:

As can be heard in the recordings, the audio playback is very good. Although a number of pops and clicks can be heard through playback, they did not distract my ear from the superb audio. This is a copy that has been enjoyed by its previous owners and which can still be enjoyed by the next.

Sleeve: VERY GOOD +

The sleeve is in great condition. All four sides are clean and bright. The cover art retains vibrant colours. There is only minor wear to the corners, spine and edges.

Inners: VERY GOOD +

The original inner sleeve is clean and bright. There are a couple of short tears to the top edge.

Additional Details:

Before the audio recording, the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.

After cleaning, the vinyl was placed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.

The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.

The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.

Please see my other listings for more prog-rock rarities.
