Smokin' is an album by organist  which was recorded in 1969 and 1977 and released on the  label. The album contains two new recordings and reissues three tracks from Earland's 1969 album
Recorded at Van Gelder Recording Studio, Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
For my 420th vinyl review, I've chosen this 1977 release by Charles Earland. Rock solid soul jazz, several of the songs were recorded in 1969. Hard to choose a highlight, there aren't really any duds here, "Soon It's Gonna Rain" has some wonderful guitar work from Jimmy Ponder. Fine sounding pressing, Earland's organ bursts through the speakers, low end is full and deep, percussion, guitars, horns all warm and clear. Excellent and underrated Earland album.
