VICTOR RECORD NO.19165 A- OLD FASHIONED LOVE, B- CHARLESTON MEDLEY BY ARTHUR GIBBS AND HIS GANG , RECORDED, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER,10TH, 1923. "The Charleston " was written by james p. johnson and cecil mack for the musical " running wild " starring the comedy team of miller & lyles and an all black cast in october 1923 ( same month this was recorded ) is the first public introduction of the "Charleston " as a song and dance. recorded by Arthur Gibbs and his gang ( an African American dance band ) that same month and it was not recorded again until 1925. this is the first time it is heard on a record and this copy looks E ( a couple of small scratches , they don't tick ) and plays E+ with great sound and loud ( i play graded it ) PLEASE CHECK PICTURES, BEING SOLD AS IS NO RETURNS. this record is a real introduction to what would later be called "the jazz age ". good bidding and a thank you to Dave Rocco for his help with some of the history...
