Hello. I recently purchased many albums that were owned by a DJ named Deirdre O'Donoghue. Confirming that I had the correct DJ name, I was excited when I found a letter among the albums that I bought that she received while working at KMET in CA back in 1985! KMET was a very popular album-oriented rock station from 1968 through 1987 From LARadio. com "O'DONOGHUE, Deirdre: KPPC, 1970-71; KKGO, 1979; KCRW, 1980-86; KMET, 1983-87; KNX/fm, 1987-88; KLSX, 1988-99. Deirdre, longtime host of "Breakfast With The Beatles" on KLSX and "Snap" on KCRW, was found dead in her apartment on January 20, 2001. A friend claims that she died of Multiple Sclerosis. Born in 1948, Deirdre started her radio career in 1974 at WBCN-Boston, a station that she maintained was "the best radio station in the world." She worked at "underground KPPC" as part of the "community switchboard" in the early 1970s. Beginning in 1983, Deirdre was heard on two FM stations - non-commercial KCRW and KMET. She was with KMET until 1987 when the station changed format and call letters. Her show "Snap" (acronym of "Saturday Night Avant Pop") on KCRW aired three nights a week with anything considered on the cutting edge of contemporary Pop music. She started at KKGO in 1979 and went on to work for KCRW, KMET, KNX/fm and KLSX. Deirdre was 52." She kept her albums, many of them she signed; many of them DJ promotional copies, in EXCELLENT condition. You will see this note along with the letter I found addressed to her with each album from what I believe to be from her collection. Thank you.**The letter is not included in the auction. It is for show only as I only have the one.
Up for sale is the vinyl DJ PROMO LP copy of "The Real Thing" by Tom Stoppard, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Jeremy Irons, Glenn Close, Christine Baranski and many more including Cynthia Nixon (I believe the same one that starred in Sex and the City. This is the original cast recording from June 12, 1984. It is on NONESUCH records, 78027-1-P.
The cover is a gatefold and is in EX condition showing very minor wear. It has some record ring and Deirdre has signed her name on the bottom front left as well as the bottom back right. It doesn't sit flat but is more puffy. Don't really know why. Gatefold itself is in NM condition!
The sleeves are original and are in excellent shape. It also comes with a copy of a typed "THE REAL THING" by Tom Stopard (they spelled his name wrong) sheet...It gives the Characters in order of appearance as well as the music in acts 1 and 2. Great to have as I don't think this always came with the albums--maybe just with a DJ's copy?
The LP is in EX condition. It looks to only have been played a few times but it does seem to have a small amount of background noise with a pop here or there. I cleaned it once and maybe it could use another cleaning. But where a lot of this is talking, the noise is minimal at best and doesn't happen very often. When the music plays, you can't hear it at all. Labels are in great shape!
