Eigentlich von Anfang an als Doppel-Album gedacht, wird dieses Ansinnen von der damaligen Plattenfirma verworfen. Erstmals übernimmt bandintern Michael Kiske den Gesang und verleiht dem melodischen Speed-Metal damit eine zugänglichere Note. Das Album erreicht in Deutschland Gold-Status und gilt gerade wegen seiner transparent klingenden Produktion bei vielen Fans bis heute als Klassiker des deutschen Metal-Genres. Und selbst bei Veröffentlichung war der Erfolg groß genug, um der Band eine Tour in Amerika zu ermöglichen. Dies war nichts weniger als ein Ritterschlag für eine deutsche Band.
