LARRY YOUNG    UNITY    BLUE NOTE 4221 (MONO)

(rvg with the ear) still in the shrink.

THIS IS PERHAPS LARRY YOUNG’S FINEST DISC, THOUGH IT COULD BE ARGUED THAT ANYTHING FROM THE ORGANIST IS HIS FINEST. WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THIS ONE IS THE PRESENCE OF AN ABSOLUTELY INSPIRATIONAL WOODY SHAW AND SAXOPHONIST JOE HENDERSON REACHING INTO TERRITORIES THAT ONLY COLTRANE COULD ASPIRE TO IN THIS PERIOD. THEN THERE IS THE DRIVING PRESENCE OF ELVIN JONES UTTERLY CONFIDENT AND CREATIVELY EMPOWERED SUGGESTING, PUSHING  AND COMMENTING. THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST JAZZ DISCS OF THE 1960S A DECADE THAT PRODUCED SOME OF THE MOST AMAZING MUSIC IN HUMAN HISTORY BAR NONE (MUSICALLY THE 60 YEARS FROM 192O TO 1980 WILL SURELY BE REMEMBERED IN TIME LIKE THE PERIOD FROM SAY 1760 TO 1825).

If you are looking for a nice copy of this record at a good price keep looking if you are looking for an amazing copy of this record this is it. A collectors record, this copy is just about mint (I hesitate to call anything mint sometimes even records right out of the shrink are not). The disc is truly beautiful difficult to find a mark on it. It plays quiet and true (I use an ortophon 2 red with an audio-technica 1240, a marantz pm 5005 and bowers and wilkins speakers to listen to the discs I offer for sale.

The sleeve is still shrinked and is nm it has just a little color loss on the entry, with a slight rub mark about half way down on the edge and a bit of ring all at the entry, the lower left corner has a tiny dirt mark on the very point (which is otherwise intact).

The back of the disc is clean white with just a bit of ring wear and a mark at the top center there is nothing else that I can see. (PLEASE LOOK AT THE PIXS AND TEXT IF YOU NEED MORE INFO).

I am playing the disc as I write and it is sublime music in a sublime format. I do not think you can find a better copy.

This one has the original sleeve a white one before the ’27 years of blue-note’ came out. I am including it but I have placed the disc in a MOFI original master sleeve (anti-static, anti-scratching, archival).
