BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper, hybrid, original mono/stereo sleeve.
PCS 7027 – original 1960s, black and sliver, one EMI box Parlophone labels.
A UK album in original condition, featuring:
1. during 1969 in the UK, EMI were getting ready for the new ‘Stereo’ music format. This particular sleeve variant of Sgt Pepper has a hard to find ‘hybrid’ mono/stereo sleeve. Ever keen to cut back on any waste, EMI made an attempt to utilise their remaining stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves, by experimenting by adding an additional line of text onto their old stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves. The text ‘PCS 7027 stereo’ was added to ‘some’ of the remaining Pepper mono flipback sleeves, to the rear, top right corner. EMI soon realised that the future of mono records was over, so it was decided to ‘scrap’ all their old stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves. So as a result very few of these ‘hybrid’ sleeves were ever printed. EMI soon went on to print ‘stereo’ only Pepper sleeves.
2. on the rear of the sleeve, top right, there is an original shop price sticker, with its original UK 1960s shop price of, 39/11.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition. The gatefold, flipback sleeve is fully laminated. This laminate has remained very glossy and it relatively un scuffed for its age. A hard to find original UK mono / stereo hybrid ‘flipback’ sleeve. The sleeve still has that ‘new’, creak sound from the spine when the sleeve is opened. The spine is in excellent condition and has remained an excellent clean white in colour and most of the text on the spine is still readable. There are NO tears, splits, stains, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.
THE INSERT: is in near MINT condition. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition and is the original period EMI red and white advertising sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean and unworn. There are NO tears, stains, pen writing, splits, stickers or sticker residue.
THE RECORD: is in excellent condition. It has remained very dark and glossy. The record is made from the original period 1960s thick, heavy vinyl.
The matrix nos. are: YEX 637 – 1 and YEX 638 - 1,
The mother / stampers are: ‘3 G L A’ and ‘4 G L M’,
