DLX 3-LP pressed at RTI at 45 RPM on "vampire red" vinyl with a "tracklight green" 12-inch in a single LP sleeve, which is inserted in the gatefold. 12-inch features four ambient mixes of album tracks titled Selected Goths in Ambient. In the same way that 2015's Beat the Champ centered on the Mountain Goats' frontman John Darnielle's lifelong passion for semi-pro wrestling, Goths focuses on another: goth music and culture. The record delves deep in the a misunderstood and nuanced genre and the different subcultures that surround it. It's truly a masterful feat of literary story-telling from a singer / songwriter with an impressively long career (that now aptly includes being a novelist) and a dedicated fanbase. Goths does not have any comped vocals, pitch correction, or guitars. Darnielle instead challenged himself to write and play only piano and Fender Rhodes keyboard on the record, resulting in something distinctively Mountain Goats but also entirely fresh.
