For most Elvis fans this is the Grail of all Elvis records, not necessarily for its value but because of what it represents in the Elvis story - the "big bang", the one that started it all; an original SUN 209 that was released in July 1954 through Sam Phillips' little recording studio at the heart of Memphis; the Memphis Recording Service, so of course this 78rpm record features the two famous songs Elvis recorded there - That's All Right (A-side) and Blue Moon Of Kentucky (B-side).

CONDITION; The record is NOT vinyl, this is shellac which is more brittle than vinyl. As a whole the record looks very impressive; the playing surface on both sides retains loads of shine and luster - the A-side shows a series of small, light scratches on the trail-off area in particular (see photos, on the right-hand side of the label) but also some light handling wear overall. Nothing drastic although it does also have a "deep groove" that goes all the way around the playing surface once - we have no idea how this affects playing (or if it affects at all) as we cannot listen to the record but it looks like it's something that was possibly already there when the record was pressed. The B-side looks next to perfect, we can't see anything major; some very, very light scuffs here and there but it is  CLEAN! No chips or cracks on either side, no warp.
 The LABELS are essentially perfect; colors are vivid and clear, either side shows no writing, no rips, no tears, no stamps, very faint couple spindle marks on side A, the label on side B is faultless. Beautiful labels!
 The numbers/etching on the trail-off area are as follows;  --> A-side; u-128-2 ok #72  --> B-side; u-129-2 #72 ok
Overall a beautiful example of a pure classic 78rpm, for Elvis fans but also for music lovers in general - and here's a great chance to get THE Elvis record to have in your collection! Remember to check all the photos, they show some of the 'faults' as well as other details like the serial numbers etched into the trail-off area.

Since we cannot listen to the record, we took out a loupe with x25 magnification and looked at the "deep groove" closer that we mentioned in the description - and it looks a bit like a slightly messed up groove. We cannot guarantee the A-side will play all the way through so if you are going to buy the record for listening and wish to retract your bid, contact us before the auction ends.
