TITLE: Miles Davis Sextet - Someday My Prince Will Come Columbia 6 Eye Original MONO jazz LP CL1656 CL 1656 w/ John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. Deep Groove first pressing. Dead wax info/matrix #’s Side 1- XLP53313 1A Side 2 XLP53314 1D there is also a small font capital P and a series of 4 hash marks, or the # 1117.
LABEL: Columbia
YEAR: 1961
CAT # CL 1656
Country of Origin: USA
Condition of LP
Side 1 VG PLAY GRADED Some light scratches, mostly short and squiggly, there are no heavy deep scratches. However there is some noticeable background crackle during during playback, particularly during the quiet passages of this side (track 2 a quiet ballad, it is pervasive throughout, yet track 3 the music is dominant). IMO the extraneous noise doesn’t ruin the listening experience, but if you are looking for the playback of a CD, look elsewhere.
Side 2 VG PLAY GRADED a few more marks, nothing heinous, but there is some extraneous background noise in the form of crackling, particularly during the quietest passages. Track one it is quite noticeable, but the upbeat second track it becomes a faint background distraction.
Cover VG+ paper split at top opening, light edge wear, small address label top left rear

About My Grading system:
I have been collecting records for over 30 years and take this seriously, especially on Ebay where record grading is often unsatisfactory. If there are marks or imperfections on records, I list them. Mint records are new, unplayed, and records must be top-notch to receive that grade, with no scratches or marks on the vinyl.
NM- records are nearly perfect, with the slightest signs of use.
My EX+ records are essentially clean and free of defects besides perhaps come slight sleeve marks, or 1 or 2 small marks that prevent the LP from being truly NM.
VG+ LP’s may have a few light hairline scratches that DNAP.
I list the date of release when this is obvious on label or jacket. I also include dead wax info (RVG, matrix numbers if relevant, etc), and include pics of inserts.
Some higher end LP’s are Play-graded on a SL-1000 table w/ EPA-100 arm and Denon 103R cart. Play graded LP’s will be noted in description.
I basically use the standard grading as defined by GOLDMINE. It appears as follows on their website.
Mint (M) Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed (SS).
Near Mint (NM ) A nearly perfect record. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly)that no record is ever truly perfect.
The record should show no obvious signs of wear. Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.
Excellent Plus (EX+/-) Some light paper scuffs and perhaps 1 or 2 minimal small light scratches. In general, if not for a couple minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus-Plus (EX) record highly acceptable.
Very Good Plus (VG+) A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK".
Very Good (VG) Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I only sell records that are graded VG if they are collectable and rare.
