The first record of Joshua Rifkin playing Scott Joplin piano rags was released in 1970. It was hugely successful receiving a Record of the Year award from Stereo Review. It sold over 100,000 copies in its first year alone. This record sparked a renewed interest and major revival of Joplin’s music. In 1972 and 1974 (9/11), 2 more records were released. Meanwhile Rifkin toured the United States and England performing Joplin’s rags starting in 1973.
This collection is the COMPLETE set containing all three recordings of Rifkin playing Joplin.
These records, like other records I sell here on eBay, are from my personal collection. I have treated them with the utmost care for as long as I’ve owned them. Before I put any record up for sale, I listen to it carefully. As well, I do a visual inspection for defects. I sell only records that I consider worth listening to (save for the odd crackle that might be due to dust or other imperfections inherent to the vinyl medium). Any marks on the record are noted in this listing.
As far as sound quality goes, I conservatively rate these records as good. My sound system consists of a Rega Planar 2, an HK receiver and Mission 3 way speakers. Having said that, these records probably deserve a better rating - either very good or excellent (but my hearing may not be as good as the buyer’s nor my speakers / system as sophisticated).
If you are not completely satisfied with the sound quality of this/these records, I will gladly take the record back and refund your purchase (shipping NOT included).
Visual inspection – No defects or marks of any sort except for what 'looks like' a small scratch on side one of volume one - does NOT feel like a scratch. Whatever 'it' is, it does NOT affect the quality of the sound in any way that I can hear ie. the record plays just fine.
Audio test – good, no audible issues
