TITLE: Donald Byrd Fuego, Mono Blue Note Jazz LP 4026 original first pressing.  Deep Groove DG  Plastylite “ear” and “RVG”  in the dead wax.  47 West 63rd NYC.   w/ Jackie McLean, Duke Pearson.

LABEL: Blue Note

YEAR: 1960

CAT # 4026

Country of Origin: USA

Condition of LP

Side 1  VG+  due to some very faint hairlines, and one small fingertip sized smudge or impression.  I cleaned this LP on the VPI and PLAY-GRADED track with smudge.  There is a barely noticeable repeated noise during playback, but IMO it is not distracting, it is minimal and the music dominates.

Side 2   VG+ there is a similar small smudge on side two.  I also play-graded this track with similar results.

Cover VG+  general shelf and edge wear, no splits, a small piece of scotch tape at top edge of spine, although the remainder of spine is fully legible and tight.

About My Grading system:

I have been collecting records for over 30 years and take this seriously, especially on Ebay where record grading is often unsatisfactory.    If there are marks or imperfections on records, I list them.  Mint records are new, unplayed, and records must be top-notch to receive that grade, with no scratches or marks on the vinyl.

NM- records are nearly perfect, with the slightest signs of use.

My EX+ records are essentially clean and free of defects besides perhaps come slight sleeve marks, or 1 or 2 small marks that prevent the LP from being truly NM.

VG+ LP’s may have a few light hairline scratches that DNAP.

I list the date of release when this is obvious on label or jacket.  I also include dead wax info (RVG, matrix numbers if relevant, etc), and include pics of inserts.

Some higher end LP’s are Play-graded on a SL-1000 table w/ EPA-100 arm and Denon 103R cart.  Play graded LP’s will be noted in description.

I basically use the standard grading as defined by GOLDMINE.  It appears as follows on their website.

Mint (M)   Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed (SS).

Near Mint (NM )   A nearly perfect record. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly)that no record is ever truly perfect.

The record should show no obvious signs of wear.  Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

Excellent Plus (EX+/-)      Some light paper scuffs and perhaps 1 or 2 minimal small light scratches.  In general, if not for a couple minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus-Plus (EX) record highly acceptable.

Very Good Plus (VG+)  A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.   Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK".

Very Good (VG)    Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.

I only sell records that are graded VG if they are collectable and rare.
