The colorfully named HERBERT GORDON AND HIS HOTEL TEN EYCK WHISPERING ORCHESTRA play two scintillating fox-trots:  "JERICHO" and "THEN WE CANOE-DIE-OODLE ALONG."

I was so intrigued with this name that I had to research it.  The Ten Eyck family - or should I say, 'dynasty' - a clan of tenacious, ambitious Dutch immigrants - lasted for three hundred years, from the mid-1600s till they petered out in the 1970s, producing politicians, entrepreneurs and assorted Big Shots for centuries. They basically owned Albany, New York, where the Hotel Ten Eyck was located, at the corner of State and Pearl. It lasted from 1917 to 1971.  AND Herbert Gordon led a "Whispering Orchestra." This was a band with no brass, only reeds and rhythm, which was designed for speakeasies.  They could play hot without making a big racket, which was the main idea in a place where one had to "Speak Easily."  Thus Herbert Gordon and his Hotel Ten Eyck Whispering Orchestra.  Whew!

Did I mention this was a SWELL record?

This original 1929 Brunswick 4372 is in slightly used but game E- condition.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
