 rare UK first press and limited edition vinyl 12LP box set released 1977 on EMI / HIS MASTER'S VOICE label with catalognumber RLS 724.

This milestone project was intended to produce of compendium of all the great singers for four key periods. This, the first and rarest of the four sets, covers up to 1914. Here are 12 LPs of great singing, with all the most important names in the operatic firmament, chosen by one of the most fastidious and tasteful of collectors, Vivian Liff.

The set comes with a 256 page book, describing the careers of each of those artists, and a review of their singing, by one of the best known operatic critics Michael Scott.

Beautiful box with little signs of time after 30 years, complete with the booklet outlining all tracks. The 256 page book looks untouched, and the vinyl is MINT and looks unplayed!

Note that this set has never been transferred to CD ... see photos.
