Die Alternativrock-Superstars Hüsker Dü trennten sich am 28. Januar 1988. ImMai 1989 erschien dann Bob Moulds erstes, mit viel Herzblut produziertes Solo-Album Workbook . Abgesehen davon, das Mould das komplette Album komponierte und produzierte spielte er auch viele Instrumente selber ein. Hilfe bekam er vom Ex-Golden Palominos Schlagzeuger Anton Fier, Pere Ubus Bassist Tony Maimone und dem Cellisten Jane Scarpantoni von der Band Tiny Lights. Obwohl Mould schon immer ein Ausnahmegitarrist war, überraschte er seine Fans auf Workbook erneut mit seinen spielerischen Fähigkeiten. Die Doppel-LP enthält die B-Seite All Those People Know als Bonustrack und erscheint als 180-gr Vinyl.
