Great 1972 Philly jazz album reissued in 2010 by Porter Records. Features the work of under appreciated Philadelphia artists like Monette Sudler, Byard Lancaster (Funny Funky Rib Crib, other work with Jef Gilson), Dwight James, and the great vibraphonist Khan Jamal (Infinity, Give the Vibes Some). With great cover art by Leroy Butler (who did some of Sun Ra's album covers). I'm also putting Khan Jamal's "Drum Dance to the Motherland" and some other jazz, African, and world records up for sale at the same time and can combine shipping.
Sounds Of Liberation was a band – and a social movement – formed in of the Germantown & Mt Airy neighborhoods of Philadelphia in 1970. The group consisted of seven members: Khan Jamal (vibraphone), Byard Lancaster (alto saxophone), Billy Mills (bass), Dwight James (drums), Monnette Sudler (guitar), Omar Hill (percussion), William Brister (percussionist, aka Rashid Salim).
