You close your eyes and want to swear that you are in the recording studio as an observer of the magic. Jones' debut on Blue Note was flawlessly produced by the great Arif Mardin. Jones, daughter of Ravi Shankar, is not quite a jazz singer, but is accompanied by some highly valued jazz talents: guitarists Adam Levy, Adam Rogers, Tony Scherr, Bill Frisell and Kevin Breit; drummers Brian Blade, Dan Rieser and Kenny Wolleson; the organist Sam Yahel; Accordionist Rob Burger and violinist Jenny Scheinman. The musicians who regularly accompany Jones, guitarist Jesse Harris and bassist Lee Alexander, also play with every piece here and are also the authors of most of the songs. Both have a gift for melodious, simple but elegant sequences as well as moving texts.
