The Last Starfighter was one of many iconic science fiction movies of the 1980's. Directed by Nick Castle (Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween movies) in 1984, the movie tells the story of an unlikely hero named Alex Rogan who ends up on a space faring conquest as part of the elite Star League spaceship fighter squadron. Alex achieves a high score in the arcade game Starfighter and is thus contacted by a secret agent known as "Centauri" who turns out to be an alien in human disguise. The story unfolds as Alex is subsequently taken from Earth and an robotic humanoid takes his place while he's away, much to the curiosity of his unknowing girlfriend "Maggie". The movie had advanced special effects for it's time and was one of the first films to introduce CGI (Computer Generated Images). The movie cost $15 million to create and generated nearly $30 million in revenue. The Last Starfighter remains as one of the great science fiction films of the 1980's.
