Winsome GERTRUDE LAWRENCE sings two of the songs she put over with great panache in the 1926 Gershwin brothers' hit show, "OH, KAY!": "DO-DO-DO" and "SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME."
Accompanied simply by piano, Gertrude puts these immortal ditties across so charmingly and daintily, you instantly will fall in love with her - the intended effect!
"Someone" has evolved over the years into the "go to" song with which ALL girl vocalists try to charm audiences; "Do-Do-Do" had the distinction of being one of the first songs to be banned from radio, for its "suggestiveness."
About Gertrude Lawrence's singing, her best-bud and frequent stage partner Noël Coward remarked: "Her voice has the exact quality of an ancient stringed instrument, which fell into disuse, and eventually was replaced by the viola."
This "Original Cast" 1926 "Scroll" Victor 20331 is in beautiful E condition. A few minor scratches.
PHOTOS: 1) Gertrude Lawrence actually singing "Someone to Watch Over Me" onstage, 1926; 2) a thoughtful portrait.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
