NOBLE SISSLE (1889 - 1975) had a swell career, which saw fighting in the trenches of WWI France and helping to bring Jazz "Over There" with Jim Europe's band; to masterminding the show "SHUFFLE ALONG" with Eubie Blake in 1921, which marked the return of Black entertainment to Broadway; to partnering with Blake in one of the most successful "two-acts" in show-biz history, making news on two continents; to leading his own big band from 1928 on, discovering Lena Horne on the way.
He made records throughout. This August, 1927 coupling - "BROKEN HEARTED" and "GIVE ME A NIGHT IN JUNE" - was made shortly after his breakup with Blake, has RUBE BLOOM (piano) and on "June," ANDY SANNELLA (clarinet and steel guitar) added. A fine record!
This original 1927 Purple Label Parlophone R.3449 is in splendid E condition. It is contemporary to the respective OKeh sides, is master-pressed and just as pretty.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
