Here's DUKE ELLINGTON AND HIS COTTON CLUB ORCHESTRA with a record that neatly sums up their career at that joint:  "JUBILEE STOMP" and "BLACK AND TAN FANTASIE." Both sides are must-have classics.

"Jubilee Stomp" is a fantastic romp, which starts hot and never cools off.  An amazing tour-de-force.  it is the Ellington record to jar your jaded friends into spit takes and stupefied amazement.  WELLMAN BRAUD (string bass) is heavily featured, as is BUBBER MILEY (trumpet) in some of their greatest work. But the whole band is the star here, as is the incredible mind of Duke Ellington.

"Black and Tan Fantasie" is a sinuous, hard-hitting, pitiless blues. Bubber tears your heart out with his take-no-prisoners muted trumpet solo.  An indelible record, the quintessence of "Jungle Music," and COMPLETELY different from all other versions Duke recorded in '27.

If I were first discovering this record today, it quickly would become my favorite, on heavy rotation, and for a long time in the future!

This original 1928 "Full Colour Nipper" H.M.V. B-4869 is in EE- condition.  Slight grain, but clean as a whistle.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
