HERE ARE three of the finest solo records of all time by anybody: JELLY ROLL MORTON, piano and vocal, poignantly playing piano and singing his heart out in 1939. He does:
General 4001 "MAMIE'S BLUES" and "ORIGINAL RAGS"
General 4004 "WININ' BOY" and "MISTER JOE"
General 4005 "DON'T YOU LEAVE ME HERE" and "KING PORTER STOMP"
Morton felt he was putting down his musical legacy, and was keen to set the record straight forever. He does so with immense finesse and determination, making every well-chosen note he sings and plays truly count. If anything, his playing here exceeds the quality of his already classic Gennett, Vocalion and Victor recordings. Seems impossible, but yeah! These records will stand endless repetition, paying off in sublime enjoyment every time. Things of Beauty and a Joy Forever, and all that.
These three original 1940 General records all are in E or better condition.

*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
