Up for auction is these framed memorabilia belonging to The Paragons' long-time member and lead guitarist, Patrick Walters.
"The band brought in Pat Walters, previously of another local group, the Barons, to replace Jim Charles on guitar. Walters was already a good friend of organist Tim Moore and immediately bonded with the other members of the band. He was considered one of the best young guitar players in Charlotte. Dave Long, a friend of the band, sat in for the session and played tambouring (sp) on both tracks. He lent Pat Walters a 12-string electric guitar to play for (the) occasion which can be heard in the distinctive arpeggiated guitar riffs in "Abba", recorded in early 1967. The summer of 1968, the group disbanded, and Pat Walters went on to form another band, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (GBU), with Bobby Pace (The Paragons) and Phil Lowe (The Barons) who would become one of Charlotte's most popular acts of the late 1960s and early 1970s. After the demise of GBU, Pat Walters went on to play lead guitar in Jeremiah, whose ranks included future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and session guitarist, Dave Spinosa, both of whom played on Paul McCartney's 'Ram' album." - Wikipedia with corrections by Pat.
Pat is also well known as an original member of famed pop-rockers, The Spongetones.
Included in this framed collection are a pair of original photographs of the band, as well as an original business card. Also included is a pair of reproduction photos, one of which is taken from the band's appearance on one of the area's most popular teen dance shows, Kilgo's Kanteen, based out of Charlotte, NC. This picture is not in the frame but will be included, as well as a personalized guitar pick. Pat is shown in all the photos and each has notes identifying the members. Of course the original 45 RPM is included in fair shape. I've detailed the record's surface as best I can in the photos. I played both sides, and aside from what I call 'normal surface noise' and the rare light "crackle", the record played well without any skips. Abba, on the A side of the disc, sounds great. Not pristine, but good for a 45 rpm from a teen's collection from 1967. The B side is the same, and features Pat's lead guitar work through a fuzz box on The Yardbirds classic, Better Man Than I. Pat resides in Charlotte, NC and remains musically active with The Spongetones and sitting in with various friends now and then. I don't rate records, and made no effort to clean this one aside from a light effort to remove dust. I described it to the best of my ability. All questions are welcomed. All sales are final.
