Private press Christian rock from 1971 from the Countryside (IL) Unitarian Fellowship (pressed by Wright Records-Chicago). This LP is a prime example of "Real People" music. Made by non-professionals who are lacking the major talent of those who made "Jesus Christ Superstar", by which this LP was obviously and deeply influenced. The song writing is pretty damn good, but that is their best strength. The various singers are not nearly always on key and off by just a bit, sharp or flat, giving it the charming real people vibe and occasional unintended amusement! The beats do not always fall in the same place, giving it a late period garage feel. However, the music is very enjoyable and they do a great job of telling in song, the story of the birth of Christ in a nutshell. The J.C. Superstar influences are many and varied. There is a singer doing a few numbers in the Judas pained, emotional gut-wrenching style as on J.C.S., though he is not portraying that character. There is a deeper voiced male singer in the Pontias Pilot's henchmen ballpark. The female lead vocalist has a very pleasant-sounding voice, but fails to hit the notes many times, though there are parts where she is very well in tune. Their are moody numbers, a rocker or two with decent guitar solos, and many parts that invoke the feel, style and moods of J.C.S. I have found a price range on only Discogs from $174.00-$500.00, with the median price being $250.00. By condition and rarity, this has to be one of the best copies out there and it comes from a private collection that has been well kept in storage since the 70s. What say we start the bidding at the median price of $249.99. Check details for a buy it now price...
