BEATLES UK, Sgt Pepper, possible pre production sleeve, 1st
issue UK 1967 mono LP.
PMC 7027, original first issue UK 1967 mono black and yellow Parlophone record labels.
A UK issue in original condition, featuring:
1. this sleeve could possibly be a very early, ‘pre production’ sleeve, as it features:
a. a colour imbalance on the sleeve, compared to that of ‘regular’ sleeves. On the front the sleeve has a more blue ‘hue’ to it and the blue sky areas apppears darker, see the comparison photo,
b. on the inside of the ‘gatefold’ sleeve, the faces appear more reddish in colour,
c. there is what appears to be an ‘unedited’ area to Georges neck, see the comparison photo, as regular sleeves show this area edited / darker,
d. the rear of the sleeve features the text, 'Patents Pending’. Only a small number of very early UK ‘flip back’ Pepper mono sleeves featured the text of ‘Patents Pending’. By the time of the official UK launch of Sgt Pepper in June 1967, the ‘Patents’ on the sleeve was agreed and the text, ‘Patents Pending’ was ‘officially’ removed from the sleeve,
2. early engraved, ‘mother/stampers’ of, ‘1 A’ on side two of the record,
3. comes with its original earliest, 'dark green' card 'cut out' sheet insert,
4. comes with its original red and white 'wavy' pattern inner sleeve.
So overal, a possibly unique sleeve variant of this album, that was not meant to be released, but as was EMIs ‘reduce waste’ policy back in 1967 this sleeve did eventually find its way out into the shops.
