CHARLIE BARNET Hop on The Skyliner! 33 1/3 RPM LP
Charlie Barnet was born in Manhattan to a wealthy and socially prominent family. In his teens he organized a five-piece band, secured a spot on a transatlantic ocean liner and, after establishing himself in the field, went South for a serious study of jazz in New Orleans.
A veteran of two decades in the band business, Barnet is almost as well-known as a discoverer of new talent as he is as a band leader. Among stars who have at one time or another been members of his organizations are Lena Horne, Dizzy Gillespie, Red Norvo, Teddy Wilson, Kay Starr, Fran Warren, Neal Hefti, among others.
