For side-1 of the MONO LP:
Capitol used the same mixes found on the mono Magical
Mystery Tour EP, including the mix for "I Am The Walrus".
That mix differs from the Capitol single, which has a few
extra bars between the lines "I'm Crying" and "Yellow Matter
Custard" that were edited out by the time the EP was
prepared.
The songs on side-2 have the same mixes used on the Capitol
singles.
There are exactly the same as the U.K. mixes, except for
"Penny Lane", which is missing the song's opening bass note
that precedes Paul's vocal on the U.K. single.
For the first five songs on side-1 of the STEREO LP:
Capitol used the same mixes found on the stereo "Magical
Mystery Tour" EP. FOr "I Am The Walrus", Capitol used an
earlier mix of the song made on 6th. November rather than
the superior remix made on 17th. November that appears on
the stereo EP. The later mix has six sets of the two-note
pattern opening the song, while the original mix has only
four.
The first two songs on
side-2 are in true stereo. Because George Martin
knew that Capitol was placing "Hello, Goodbye" on its album,
the song was mixed for stereo on 6th. November 1967. Since
"Strawberry Fields Forever" was originally intended for
inclusion on an album, a stereo mix had been made on 29th.
December 1966. Capitol used this mix for its album. By the
time "Penny Lane" was completed on 17th. January 1967, the
decision had been made to issue the song as a single. Thus,
no stereo mix was made. Capitol created a fake sterero
duophonic mix from the mono single mix (without the trumpet
ending). As no stereo mixes were made for the single "All
You Need Is Love b/w Baby, You're A Rich Men", these songs
were also given fake stereo duophonic mixes created from the
single's mono mixes. (http://www.yokono.co.uk)
