HELEN SAVAGE and THE DIXIE SYNCOPATORS field some Savage Syncopation, 1929 Chicago style, with these decisive and impressive numbers, "IT'S BAD FOR YOUR SOUL" and "FOR JUST A LITTLE LOVE FROM YOU."
HELEN SAVAGE knocks these tunes out of the park, with her powerful, sassy, don't-mess-with-me vocals. (It's one of only two records that she made.)
This band was really OMER SIMEON'S big moment - to play with the copacetic precision and passion heard on these sides, took a terrific effort! I nominate them for the Down Beat Top Band award for 1929!
The players: OMER SIMEON, clarinet, alto sax, director / GEORGE MITCHELL, SHIRLEY CLAY, trumpets / CECIL IRWIN, clarinet, tenor sax / EARL HINES, piano / CLAUDE ROBERTS, banjo / HAYES ALVIS, tuba / WALLACE BISHOP, drums.
This original 1929 Brunswick 4536 is in solid-playing V+ condition. Some wear and scratches.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."
And another: “Descriptions as passionate and informative as superbatone’s are commensurate with what you receive: beautiful records, fast service - and even his writing on the shipping box is interesting, artistic, and indicative of the care taken for these records and to transport them safely.”
