Timothy Francis Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) was an American psychologist and author known for his strong advocacy of psychedelic drugs.
Evaluations of Leary are polarized, ranging from "bold oracle" to "publicity hound". 
According to poet Allen Ginsberg, he was "a hero of American consciousness", and writer Tom Robbins called him a "brave neuronaut".
President Richard Nixon called him "the most dangerous man in America".
During the 1960s and 1970s, at the height of the counterculture movement, Leary was arrested 36 times

DR. TIMOTHY LEARY, PH.D., former Harvard psychologist, and Messiah of the LSD cult, was chosen for this recording. 
Born in Springfield, Mass., Dr. Leary briefly attended West Point then turned to psychology. 
In 1950, he became director of the Kaiser Founda-tion, and thereafter lectured extensively in Europe. 
To quote Dr. Leary, "I had my first psychedelic experience in Mexico, in 1960.
I ate seven of the sacred mushrooms of Mexico and within a half hour was spun into a psychological laboratory two billion years old which laughed at my pretentions at predicted knowledge. 
Since this time, I have done almost nothing but attempt to understand and communicate this experience." 
Shortly after and upon his return to the faculty of Harvard University, he began his experiments at the Center for Research. 
These experiments lasted over two years, but due to an avalanche of publicity, he was given the opportunity to either discontinue his experiments or leave Harvard. 
He promptly chose the latter. Dr. Leary now pursues his studies and experiments under the auspices of the Castalia Foundation, a center for research of scientific and religious implications of consciousness-expanding drugs.
