The Scream is the debut studio album by British rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released on 13 November 1978 by Polydor Records. Its innovative combination of angular and serrated guitar with a bass-led rhythm and machine-like drums played mostly on toms, made it a pioneering work of the post-punk genre.  The Scream was met with widespread critical acclaim; it was seen as an original musical development in rock music. It strongly influenced post-punk, noise rock and alternative rock genres and rock guitar playing in general. Groups including Joy Division and Killing Joke have cited it as an influence.

The title of the album was in part inspired by the 1968 film The Swimmer (starring Burt Lancaster), in which main character, Neddy Merrill, intended to swim home, using open-air pools. Climbing over garden fences, from pool to pool, his journey put him into a state of mental and physical exhaustion, and in the end, Goddard said, "all Neddy Merrill could think to do was scream, [...] as a scream of exhausted jubilance after a troubled, arduous journey".

·       It peaked at No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart.

·       The 2004 edition of The Rolling Stone Album Guide gave a 4 out 5 rating.

·       It was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

THIS COPY is a 1st Monarch pressing from 1978 on the Polydor label (see Notes, below).  The vinyl has several marks, but none that affect playback.  The vinyl is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition.  The original cover has a short cut into the top edge near the right hand side when viewed from the front (see photo).  Other than that I think it may very well qualify as Excellent, but because of the cut, I am grading it as Very Good Plus [VG+].  The original inner sleeve -- which has a picture similar to those on the cover on one side and lyrics on the reverse -- also shows a bit of the cut, and has middle splits on all three sides.  Otherwise it is in very nice condition.  The inner sleeve is in Very Good [VG] condition.
