LONNIE JOHNSON started singing and playing the blues in St. Louis in 1925, and carried on into the '60s. He was one of the most virtuosic and versatile artists, who besides making his own blues records, also recorded with jazzmen Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Eddie Lang! On this early (1926) effort, Lonnie is joined by brother JAMES JOHNSON on fiddle, and pianist DeLOIS SEARCY, on "LONESOME JAIL BLUES" and the strangely titled, "WHEN I WAS LOVIN', CHANGED MY MIND BLUES."
This original 1926 "Race" OKeh 8309 is in V+ condition. A little scratchy, but quite listenable.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."
