SONNY CLAY'S PLANTATION ORCHESTRA heat up the floorboards on their epic Vocalion record of Jelly Roll Morton's "CHICAGO BREAKDOWN," and their eponymous tribute to their place of employment, Fatty Arbuckle's "Plantation Club" in Culver City, "PLANTATION BLUES."

This original 1926 Vocalion 15254 is in rather thrashed V- condition.  It has a rim-to-label hair crack, stabilized at the edge. The record still plays respectably.  Despite the late number, this still is an acoustical recording!

The girl on the right (I think!) is IVIE ANDERSON, who later shone for ten years as Duke Ellington's best gal singer.  For a detailed report on the shameful treatment Clay and his musicians received in Australia, see: http://coogeemedia.com.au/clay.htm

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.

An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."

And another:  “Descriptions as passionate and informative as superbatone’s are commensurate with what you receive: beautiful records, fast service - and even his writing on the shipping box is interesting, artistic, and indicative of the care taken for these records and to transport them safely.”
