SEALED Vinyl 4 LP set. Time/Life Music R 139-37/OP 4537. Mono. COVER: NM- some corner wear, shrinkwrap is peeling at the opening. VINYL: MINT still sealed, never played.

This Time Life Music 4-LP set features 40 V-Disc tracks, almost entirely of special recordings by musicians who, because of their desire to contribute to the war effort, came together to record V-Discs for the armed forces. Later, many of these artists would records the same selections for their record labels but what you will hear, in many cases, are their first recordings of these songs as well as a goodly number that they never recorded for commercial use. Many of the performances were recorded during the July 1942-November 1944 strike by the musician's union against the major record companies. However, the union did permit its members to volunteer their services for the V-Disc project. Although the early V-Discs were made of shellac, the need for that material for the war effort, coupled with the breakage problem, demanded that unbreakable plastic be used. It is these 12-inch pressings from the collectors and friends of this project that were used to assemble this 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition set.
