Serge’s sixth full length album originally released in 1964 is one of those records that will totally blow you away since this is the first ethno pop album ever. Sure, there’s the odd jazzy piece, but this is Afrobeat with a capital A, all percussion and drums and in your face female backing singers all topped off by Gainsbourg’s smoky and dark vocals: Gainsbourg Percussions was by far Serge’s weirdest album up to that point. Recorded with French jazz great Alain Gouraguer, Gainsbourg Percussions include the hits “New YorkUSA” and “Couleur Café” - essential Gainsbourg. On 180 gram vinyl.
Serge Gainsbourg, born Lucien Ginsburg (2 April 1928 – 2 March 1991) was a French singer-songwriter, actor and director. Gainsbourg’s extremely varied musical style and individuality make him difficult to categorize. His legacy has been firmly established, and he is often regarded as one of the world’s most influential popular musicians.
