The Who's sixth release is the coming-of-age rock opera that is widely credited with single-handedly creating a nationwide mod revival. Now remastered, this mid-sixties story of the Mods vs Rockers sounds is as clear and crisp as ever. Telling the tale of Jimmy The Mod, Townshend channels the sort of teen angst we haven't seen the likes of since the turbulent days of My Generation. Numbers like the fiery classic 'Real Me', the contemplative '5:15' and the epic 'Love, Reign O'er Me' carry you on a journey. Moonie's swirling cymbals, Townshend's flitting melodies, The Ox's weighty heartbeat, and Daltrey's rasp are all bound by an enchanting use of synthesizers to create a richness unheard of in earlier works. Drenched in praise, Quadrophenia remains a favourite with fans and the band, with Pete claiming "I think it's the best album that I will ever write." It's clear to see why Quadrophenia kick-started the Mod revival that captured the hearts and minds of an entirely new generation.
