The shipping charge listed includes USPS domestic media mail charge, shipping material (box and insert), plus tracking number, to help prevent "missing" packages. We both win this way and your package is secure.
I will always use a sturdy LP shipping box and NOT homemade scrap cardboard, because they are too weak.
Records are packed outside of the jacket to prevent splits and cover damage during shipping. The insert helps support package so that your record is protected.
