19th NERVOUS BREAKDOWN"  (Mick Jagger & Keith Richards,1966.)

You're the kind of person
You meet at certain dismal, dull affairs,
Center of a crowd, talking much too loud,
Running up and down the stairs.
Well, it seems to me, that you have seen too much in too few years,
And though you've tried, you just can't hide,
Your eyes are edged with tears.

You better stop,
  Look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown.

When you were a child,
  You were treated kind,
But you were never brought up right,
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys,
But still you cried all night.
  Your mother who neglected you,
  Owes a million dollars tax,
And your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown.

Oh, who's to blame, that girl's just insane,
Well nothing I do don't seem to work,
It only seems to make matters worse. Oh, please.....

You were still in school,
  When you had that fool,
  Who really messed your mind.
And after that you turned your back
  On treating people kind,
  On our first trip,
I tried so hard to re-arrange your mind,
But after a while, I realised you were disarranging mine.

You better stop, look around,
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown.
Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown,
Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown.
ROLLING STONES: "19th Nervous Breakdown" / "As Tears Go By" 45 RPM, IN MONO.
THE FIRST UK PRESSING, RELEASED 12th FEBRUARY,1966.

UNBOXED LOGO DECCA LABEL: F. 12331.
Variations in the 60's are ever surfacing, this is yet a first for me, Decca used a press that created a raised concentric ring
around the centre hole.   The first "19th Nervous Breakdown"  I have seen, not surprising because they often did that in the
60's and adopted it for most of the 1970's, EMI did exactly the same with the same style record press.   The surprise here is
only the A-side has that and the B-side is flat, exactly the same rough finished textured label paper, but an embossed ring on
one side only is unusual, although last year I sold a Them single from 1964 with the same scenario.   The real 'variation' here
is the stunning condition of the labels and the vinyl for a 50 year old Rolling Stones single, 50 years old almost to the day!

MAITRIX:  XDRF - 37398 - T1 - 4C /  XDRF - 36987 - T1 - 1C
Decca began the pressing by indexing the digits after the letters 'T' and before the letter 'C', with '- 1' and with every batch
made for the incredible amount made, the digits were increased.   Both side's 'T' digits are still  '- 1' , the 'C' letter on the
A-side has risen to '4' but the B-side is still on the '1', so positively a first pressing.

ORIGINAL 1966 DECCA COMPANY SLEEVE, BARELY USED AND UNSPLIT WITH ONLY A RECORD IMPRESSION
AND A FEW RELATED VERY LIGHT CREASES.  ANY MINOR SIGNS OF ORIGINATING 50 YEARS AGO BELONG
THERE OR THIS WOULD BE A COUNTERFEIT SLEEVE!  IN UNAGED, SUPERB NEAR  MINT CONDITION.

AMAZINGLY, THE RECORD WAS ONLY PLAYED ONCE PER SIDE WITH THE GREATEST CARE, NO SCRATCHES
AND A RECORD GLEAMING LIKE BRAND NEW.  ANY HANDLING TRACES ARE FEATHER LIGHT TO NEAR INVISIBLE,
BUT AS HARD AS I LOOKED I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WORTHY OF INCLUSION.
THE SOUND QUALITY IS SHEER PERFECTION ON BOTH SIDES, WHICH FOR THE BEAUTIFUL ACOUSTIC
"As Tears Go By", THAT IS NOTHING LESS THAN MIRACULOUS FOR A 48 YEAR OLD MONO SINGLE.
THE RECORD IS IN STUNNING IN MINT CONDITION.

During late 1965, the Rolling Stones began an arduous, lengthy tour of North America, starting at The Forum, Montreal, on the
29th October, then they performed an amazing 37 dates over the next two months. Near to the end of the extensive tour, on the
3rd December at The Memorial Hall, Sacramento, CA, Keith Richard was knocked unconscious by an electric shock when his guitar
made contact with a microphone, ironically they were performing "The Last Time" when it happened!  Mick Jagger named the tour
jokingly as being his "19th nervous breakdown", that phrase was used to write a song about and around this era the Stones music
was becoming progressively heavier. Not quite yet "Paint It Black" but the song was a major step in that direction and 1966 would
become a momentous year for the band's recordings, more importantly Mick and Keith could now write a song with just the title in
mind.  The guitar sound was definitive Rolling Stones, containing more of the second half of the decade's sound, the song created
a new 'sound' all of it's own, any 'pop' elements found within "Satisfaction" were long gone and perhaps it was why they got away
with overtly mentioning their consumption of drugs.  It was incredible how radio stations in England & America ignored it or just
missed hearing how the last verse's lyrics were directly associated with acid:
"On our first trip,
I tried so hard to re-arrange your mind,
But after a while, I realised you were disarranging mine."
The Beatles were also playing games with song titles like "Day Tripper", the 'age of innocence' was being maintained in 1965, but
by late 1966, every word in a song was being scrutinised for veiled references.   As soon as Keith came round, the Stones headed
to RCA Studio,Hollywood to record "19th Nervous Breakdown" with Andrew Oldham producing it, by the 8th December the track had
been completed.  They had taken care of the B-side earlier in the same studio just before the Autumn '65 tour began the 6th & 7th
September, they re-recorded a beautiful slow ballad, "As Tears Go By", the first recording was back in 1964 when they cut a demo
for Marianne Faithful to cover. "As Tears Go By" was released only in America as an A-side and really successfully, making No.6
in December,1965, touring the USA recently had no doubt contributed to one of the slowest songs they issued to date, being so well
received. "Little Red Rooster" was their first, the rest of the world had to wait to hear this almost Mick Jagger solo recording,
Keith was the only one involved, playing an acoustic guitar. Who arranged the strings on the track depends on where you read it!
Text books credit Andrew Loog Oldham, but some of the UK very first pressing's labels credited Keith Richard & Mike Leander, with
Oldham given the producer credit only.  Keith's not exactly renowned for string arranging, so maybe an electric shock in December
  robbed him of that gift!

In England after five consecutive No.1 singles,"19th Nervous Breakdown" broke the sequence'only' making No.2, their competition
with the Beatles ended in early 1966, they were currently on a ninth No.1.  My hunt for only top condition singles is relentless, it
is very frustrating because they are so hard to find lately, I aim that high mostly because of sound being a burning priority, I
also I want to present them how I first bought mine during the 1960's, when just released.  This is a classic example of why the
condition of a 45 is so essential, this single is rarely available without a solitary mark, or in genuine Nr. Mint, the reason I called
this an essential single concerns having two tracks, not one.  "As Tears Go By" is imperatively only ever heard in perfect audio
clarity, it happens to be one of the most beautiful melodies the Stones ever wrote and belatedly recorded.

The run-in grooves only have natural static and even that is low enough not to even mention, then with just fantastic clarity the
superb guitar intro rings out with staggering power and perfectly defined mono sound, there is no surface sound during the intro.
By now the Rolling Stones were becoming masters of creating dramatic opening's to their singles, Mick Jagger comes in singing
those classic lines about mental breakdown's, brought about by an ego demanding to be the centre of attention, the second verse
centres on a spoilt rich child's neglected childhood affecting her when she reaches the full maturity of a young woman. They were
no longer the standard lyrics of a mid-60's single, social awareness and observation's were part of the evolving decade. Plus the
instrumental backing is pure Rolling Stones from this period, with their far heavier sound I mentioned before, now emerging from
previous releases.  Bill Wyman's bass guitar is really prominent, with a 'shuddering' or shimmering effect, maybe 'gurgling' is a
better description.  The Stones had their 45's mixed with the instruments pushed up front, with the vocals slightly further back,
Glyn Johns had re-mixed the American made original track and evened out the balance between the vocals and the instruments.
The Rolling Stones took a listen, rejected the re-mix and insisted on this mix, none of that will make much sense unless you hear
"19th Nervous Breakdown" from an 1965 original single, by the time this track made it onto various compilation LP's and even
worse, CD's, you are hearing another completely different, later sound engineer's version and not how they wanted this heard.
Their follow up single in just a few months took this heavier and slightly menacing feel further, the magnificent "Paint It Black"
and of course in the April of 1966, onto "Aftermath".   Often it was singles in the 60's first announcing a band's subtle change
in musical direction, during 1966 this was happening on an unprecedented scale. The sound is sheer perfection from beginning
to end,no crackles, clicks or pops on one of Decca's most immaculate pressings, ther ecord did Not come with distortion on Bill's
very loud bass, wear and abuse caused that on the overwhelming majority of all first pressings.

Mint vinyl is a joy to look at, one play is beyond belief, especially because 1960's record shops played them before being sold.
Once again just ultra low level static in the run-in grooves, I cannot and will not say a 1966 record did have static, but I will
state there are definitely no crackles or clicks here or on that gentle intro.  My volume is set at a ridiculously loud setting to
be accurate about any background or foreground surface sound, I also love music from folk to heavy rock to have a really full
on impact!  That gives Keith's beautiful acoustic guitar intro, perfectly crystal clear sound quality and the guitar is projected
with the very impact I just meant.  "As Tears Go By" should never be heard suffering from horrific needle noise, Mick Jagger's
fantastic vocal is just as clear before the superb Mike Leander string arrangement powers in.  Andrew Oldham produced both
both sides but he brought in Decca's Mike Leander for the complexity of the backing needed for this beautiful track, Oldham
also recieved one third credit for the songwriting in 1964. The whole track plays without anything intruding onto even the very
quiestest, most delicate sections, only the very purest mono sound quality, giving superb audio definition to every individual
sound.  The most impressive of all for me is the stunning sound of the acoustic guitar, unworn music signals do have fantastic
audio clarity.   I always have to be slightly cautious writing about a single of this age, when such a delicate recording is the
subject, of course it is not a CD  and there will always be the minutest 45 RPM playing sound, even though this virtually has
nothing at all to justify adding the obvious.  I find it crazy to even include the blatantly obvious, because nobody tries harder
than me to locate the ultimate sounding first pressings, but I am fully aware many are about to hear an original 1960's mono
record for the first time.  Well, this would make the ideal record to find out how stunningly clean 60's singles can be when in
this pristine condition.   The massive volume here was deliberately mastered, an ultimate  sounding "As Tears Go By."

  R & M RECORDS.

My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller.  Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged.  Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.  A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?

For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.

IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
