The 100 Greatest Recordings of all Time.
This is the complete acclaimed set made by the Franklin Mint back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Each of the 50 boxes contains 2 LPs. One hundred records in all. All the vinyl is Near Mint. All boxes are Excellent +.
This set is from my personal collection, which I am reducing in size.
These recordings were selected by a prize team put together by the Franklin Mint comprised of the most famous musicians and music critics available. They all voted independently and tabulated the results. All their choices then had their publishing rights purchased from the original record labels to be remastered and re-released by the Franklin Mint. The set was available by subscription only and never sold in stores.
The mastering is top-notch and is superior in the case of Columbia recordings to the original releases!
The records were pressed in a clean-room under conditions never before seen for making records. The vinyl is a beautiful maroon color, as were all the Franklin Mint releases, and contains a special ingredient that keeps down static. The vinyl quality has never been bettered. It puts many modern audiophile releases to shame!
Each album comes with the original letter that gives overall details on the release. In addition, each album has an informative booklet inside with the history of the piece and its recording and the performers.
For this release, the Franklin Mint came up with an ingenious way to protect their records so that the grooves never come into contact with a sleeve. Each record fits on a little swindle, and then a plastic clamshell covers it, snapping easily closed. This very expensive method was for the first subscribers only. Later editions had a smaller box with conventional inner sleeves that slid in and out of the box.
There was originally a booklet that cross-referenced the composers and titles. I don't have the original booklet but do have a photocopy of it.
The set is a beautiful accomplishment of the greatest classical works in the best possible quality for the performances. It takes five feet of shelf space! It will be packed very very securely in four or five heavy boxes, and sent by Media Mail for FREE. United States sales only, sorry.
Thanks!
