"Love Me Do" is The Beatles' First Single. When the single was originally released in the United Kingdom on October 5, 1962, it peaked at #17. The song was written several years before it was recorded and prior to the existence of The Beatles and is an early Lennon–McCartney composition, mainly written by Paul McCartney in 1958–1959 while truant from school at age 16. John Lennon wrote the middle eight.

"Love Me Do" was released as a single in the United States, backed with "P.S. I Love You" on the Tollie Records (9008) label in 1964. It spent 14 Weeks on the Hot 100 and rose to #1. It was also #1 on Cashbox and in Australia. It rose to #8 in Canada. “P.S. I Love You” charted separately and peaked at #10 on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts. The record was Certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Tollie Records was a record label formed in February 1964, as a subsidiary label of Vee-Jay Records. It closed in May 1965. The label distributed two of the Beatles' singles in the United States before Capitol Records eventually took over. The second single released was "Love Me Do" b/w "P.S. I Love You" (Tollie 9008), in April 1964. Although the label released a total of 48 singles before it ceased operation in 1965, the Beatles records were the label's only million-sellers.
