Doug Watkins   Watkins At Large     Transition 20  mono original booklet included  ORIGINAL NOT A REISSUE

Hank Mobley (ts), Donald Byrd (t), Kenny Burrell (g) Duke Jordan (piano), Doug Watkins (b) Art Taylor (d)    Recorded 1956

It's an original pressing Transition jazz record. That should be enough.  No need for hyperbole and talk about "Holy Grail" or "Mega Rare" "Insanely Rare" etc etc.  The record has the standard Transition label and both of them are present and on the record which is not all that common for Transitions.  "R" is in the runout on Side A and "CR" on Side B. The record is "Flat Edge".  The cover has no printing on spine, is laminated and is "Frame" style.   The original booklet is included.

A very nice copy.  You won't be looking to upgrade.  Record looks M-/ VG++ maybe M- and plays VG++, near M- except for a two ticks on each side near the beginning, probably caused by automatic changer play.   Record plays cleanly and quietly and really superbly for a Transition styrene pressing.  No scratches.  One very light scuff on Side 2.  The vinyl is bright and glossy. Grooves do not look gray or heavily worn.  Record looks like it has only been played a few times.  Transition records are known for turning up without labels or the labels loose in the sleeve.  The labels are on both sides of the record, but they are starting to come loose.

Cover is VG+

Front cover looks really nice. It is very glossy and bright has very light wear. Top seam is split and is untaped 3 and I/4 inches at the pocket with heavy wear. Rest of seam, app 9 inches, is intact with wear.  Bottom seam is intact with  spots of heavy wear at the corners. Spine looks like it's split top to bottom, but there's been a well done tape fix with the tape showing on the blank back cover.  The back cover has moderate wear.

The original booklet is in M- condition.  Only slight fading.  No dog eared or torn pages, no staining and no writing.

I WILL BE RUNNING WEEKLY AUCTIONS OF 50s and 60s JAZZ LPS INC. BLUE NOTE  1500s PRESTIGE NYCs TRANSITIONS ETC. MANY WEEKS AND SOME HIGH END ITEMS TO COME.

My highest grade is M- and I rarely grade 50s or 60s records M-. Records are graded visually using the Goldmine system. M-, VG++, VG+, VG, VG- etc. I play grade any potential problem areas.  I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws. You will be satisfied.  No hassles.
